How it started

Meet your newest designated plant lady!

Hi, my name is Leah and I have a plant problem. I am absolutely obsessed with them and love talking about them way too much! Let's go back to how it all started though...

I grew up in Reno and moved here when I was 4, but was born in Central Valley, CA, and have a soft spot for Northern California. I went off to college in Idaho graduated in visual communications and started working as a freelance graphic designer and social media manager. I met my husband at school and had our first baby my second to last semester.

We ended up moving to North Dallas after graduation for my husband's job. Texas is where my problem really began. I started to buy houseplants. I watched all of the Planterina videos I could to know how to take care of them. By my surprise, my plants started growing and I found my green thumb! I was a little over-enthusiastic for our out-of-college budget though and my husband kindly suggested I stop spending so much money on plants.

So what do I do? I started selling plants to make money to buy more plants! Once I got my hands on a coveted rare plant at the time, a philodendron silver sword, it took me down a whole other rabbit hole of rare collector plants. I began importing the plants from Thailand as they were much cheaper to buy them from there.

We ended up moving back to Reno and I had the crazy idea to actually go to Thailand and directly sell from there. I have been there four times over the last two years and have learned a lot about where these houseplants come from and how they grow in their natural environments. Needless to say, they don't have "indoor plants" there. They grow them all outdoors where they thrive!

How did I end up here?

Back to the present: Growing up in the Reno area, I have always loved the big sense of locally made and locally bought. I would spend my high school years in midtown with my friends shopping all things local. I didn't realize just how significant those purchases I made were to those businesses until I started a business and experienced the power of every purchase.

After spending the last few years selling plants across the nation (I shipped to every state and even Puerto Rico!) and traveling back and forth to Thailand to purchase and resell plants, I wanted to take a step back and get back to my local roots, especially now with three kids!

Sure enough, an acquaintance of mine who was familiar with my background in plants reached out to me to see if I wanted to possibly add some plants to his boss's office as well as take care of them. I jumped on the opportunity and now here I am!

I have absolutely loved serving the local businesses and residents by doing what I love and sharing what I love with the people of Reno. It is an absolute dream! I love getting to know so many different people and being able to create a living space in their homes and offices for them to enjoy. Plants truly bring the sense of outdoor wonder to our indoor living spaces, something I feel is truly essential to our well-being.
